Intro
There are some things that you do better than most people, not world class, but pretty damned good. Let's call them Talents.
There are also things that you do which are Enjoyable.
If you are lucky, some of your daily activities fit into both categories.
How many hours in an average week do you spend in the Enjoyable Talent area?
Damn few, I'll wager.
Why?
People get caught up in "life stuff", and each new day brings another heaping pile.
Stack it here, stack it there, and soon it is everywhere. And your life is ... nowhere.
That is the nearly universal plight of humanity.
It is also a primary reason why 95% of people "retire" dead broke.
A wasted life is a terrible thing.
Is There Another Way?
Apparently so. If 95% don't "make it" financially, that leaves 5% who do, to varying degrees.
Ignoring those who were just plain lucky: in birth, marriage, or other forms of chance, perhaps we can learn from the self-made achievers.
The Secret
Here is my opinion about their "secret", based on decades of study on the subject.
They focus on working on their highest value activities daily. At their best time, place, and pace.
They purposely let other stuff fit into left-over time.
In other words, the direct opposite from normal folks.
Let's unpack that for greater clarity.
There Are 4 Key Elements Involved
To do your best work (some call it deep work) you need to discover:
When is your best time for focused work?
What is your best working pace?
Where is your best work place?
What are your highest value activities?
Those elements are probably not apparent to you at this moment, but they can certainly be discovered.
You can begin a new success path right now:
Discover your 3 facilitating key elements: time, pace, & place. They are force multipliers.
But they must have something worthwhile to multiply. So, most important of all, is to find and grasp onto your highest value activities. That may be far more difficult.
Many will gravitate toward the Enjoyable things.
Others will follow their Talents.
Still others will pursue financial goals.
The Holy Grail is to create a path that will encompass all 3.
A few hours spent in self-discovery will be well spent.
By charting your own future, you will avoid the wasted life feeling many elderly people experience.
And it just might lead to a life of fulfillment.
And what are your thoughts?
