Habits Of Success
Intro
Once you know your facilitating elements (time, pace, & place) and your highest value activities, you can proceed.
[Note: these topics were covered in this post]
It is time to start reshaping your life to get to wherever you want ‘Future You’ to be. That will take some sustained intentional action.
To that worthy end, some habits will be helpful. Following are some generalized thoughts, followed by more detailed suggestions.
In General
Plan your daily/weekly/monthly work load to achieve success in bite-sized increments.
Create and control your work environment to minimize all distractions.
Schedule your best work at your best time to work.
Learn to focus (aka do deep work) at will.
Practice saying ‘No’ to things that would leave 'Future You' insolvent.
Develop habits of consistently doing things to improve your future & avoid the converse.
Some Starting Suggestions
Do a brain dump & a deep think on what your higher value activities are at least quarterly.
Experiment to discover your best working time(s). Many successful people find that a "power nap" resets their internal clock allowing a second deep work session.
Experiment to learn your ideal pace for quality work; i.e. how many minutes per work session, how many minutes per break, and how many work sessions per day. The Pomodoro technique is often recommended.
Create your ideal work environment. This is likely a home office scenario.
Plan each new day in the morning or the night before. An unplanned day will quickly get out of hand.
Write down 3 or 4 results that you expect from yourself that day.
Focus intensely on the outcome you want during the day.
Set aside 1-2 hours as buffer time for the unforeseen.
Schedule 7-9 hours of good sleep, so tomorrow you are alert & productive.
Schedule social/family time.
Any lack of accomplishment is a learning experience:
Did you over-reach OR slack off OR allow someone to hijack your objectives?
Factor that insight into tomorrow's schedule.
And what are your thoughts?
