We are exposed to new ideas daily.
But Internal Filters Block Most From Awareness:
Attitude (semi-permanent)
Current interests (seasonal variations)
Overload factor (varies daily, but recurs often)
Attention level (changes rapidly)
Resulting In:
Very few raw ideas get through your filters.
All unfiltered ideas (i.e. raw data) are lost; actually never found.
Most of those that do manage to wiggle through your filters are lost through a memory sieve, generally within minutes.
Develop Your Antidotes
Create An Idea Mindset:
Become more curious about your world
Welcome new ideas
Be playful with ideas
Realize that there is an infinite supply
Understand that you can access as many as you are willing to stop filtering out
Accept that you will not act on 99+% of them & that is fine
Embrace that you only need 1 to change your world for the better.
Develop A Professional Persona:
Be temporarily serious about ideas
Record ideas as you become aware of them
Capture ideas into notes as quickly as possible
Create an efficient input procedure
Make access to note taking a priority.
Establish Your PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) System:
Allow idea notes to accumulate
Let notes connect with each other
Revisit notes periodically to add new thoughts
Pluck the ripe ones.
In Summary
Let more ideas in
Play
Record
Pluck
For assured success add 1 more ingredient: LUCK!
Of which, I wish you much good.
